Our client is looking for an experienced scientist in molecular biology to join the research team in Southampton. Compass Life Sciences have partnered with an innovative global company who are developing exciting novel products within plant biology and biotechnology. Our client is looking for an experienced scientist in molecular biology to join the research team in Southampton. The role will be focused on receptor interaction, activation, ligand binding and signalling in mammalian cell cultures (functional characterisation).
You will be responsible for shaping the growth of new biotechnology capabilities by developing tools for efficacy tests. The successful candidate will be able to generate new ideas and create new opportunities for the company. Experience working with in vitro, mammalian cell cultures and using molecular techniques is required. Great communication is a must as liaising with stakeholders, external vendors and colleagues will be vital for the success of this role.

The role:

  • Design and implement innovative research solutions using molecular and microbiology techniques.
  • Functionally characterise high value compounds in vitro.
  • Use molecular biology techniques to support the screening and identification of high value compounds.
  • Interpret results and implement new methodologies to provide solutions to inform the development of new assays.
  • Training of scientists and lab technicians.
  • Interface with key R&D teams to apply methodologies and frameworks for efficacy tests
  • Interface with key external partners for the advancement of capabilities and develop/execution of studies

Required:

  • PhD or industry equivalent level of experience in molecular biology, protein chemistry or biomedical science
  • Experienced in receptor activation and signalling studies.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques to functionally characterize high value compounds.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in cell systems, transfection techniques, protein and DNA analysis, molecular cloning, sequencing and protein purification
  • Expertise in gene editing techniques including CRISPR/Cas9
  • Track record in implementing new methodologies in workstreams
  • Evidence of impactful research experience as demonstrated by high-quality publications, patents and/or presentations at national/international conferences.
  • Experience in interpreting results and implementing new methodologies.
  • Strong personal leadership, collaboration, and communication.
  • Ability to interface effectively with external partners and vendors.
